Is your old stereo system gathering dust in the corner, silent for far too long?
I personally believe that vintage audio gear possesses a unique charm that modern gadgets just can't match. Whether it’s the warm, amber glow of the VU meters, the heavy, satisfying resistance when you turn a solid metal knob, or that rich, full-bodied "analog flavor"—it is simply mesmerizing.
But let's be honest: in 2025, fumbling through shelves to find a CD or rewinding cassette tapes isn't exactly convenient. In reality, you just want to sink comfortably into your sofa, pull out your phone, and play your "Discover Weekly" on Spotify or stream high-res tracks from Tidal.
It’s a shame that your precious amplifier from the 80s doesn't understand what "Wi-Fi" is.
Here is the good news: You don't need to replace these classic devices. In this guide, I will walk you through, step-by-step, how to use the WiiM Pro Plus to build a bridge between the "Golden Age" of audio and the modern streaming era.
Before we begin, you will need the following items:
Your Vintage Amplifier/Receiver: As long as it has RCA inputs (Red/White jacks), or even Coaxial/Optical inputs, it will work perfectly.
WiiM Pro Plus: For vintage gear, I strongly recommend the "Plus" model over the entry-level Mini or standard Pro. Why? Because it houses a superior AKM DAC chip. This ensures the sound is pure and delicate, avoiding that harsh "digital glare," preserving the authentic soul of your old system.
RCA Audio Cables: Standard red and white audio cables.
A Smartphone: To install the WiiM Home App for control.

Go to the back of your amplifier. You will likely see several rows of red and white jacks.

Where to Plug In: Look for inputs labeled AUX, CD, TUNER, or TAPE IN. Plugging into any of these will work perfectly. Simply connect the "Line Out" from the back of the WiiM to these ports using your cables.
⚠️ WARNING - Do NOT Touch the "PHONO" Port: Please, make sure you avoid the input labeled PHONO.
The Reason: The PHONO input is designed specifically for turntables. It contains a pre-amplifier that boosts the signal by dozens or even hundreds of times. If you plug a streamer in here, the sound will be terribly distorted (and loud!), and you could potentially blow out your speakers.

Once you have powered up the WiiM and connected it to Wi-Fi (it only takes about 2 minutes via the App), there is one crucial setting you need to adjust for vintage amps.
In the WiiM Home App, go to: Device Settings -> Audio Settings -> Audio Output.
I strongly recommend setting the volume mode to "Fixed Volume Output."
Why do this? This locks the WiiM's volume at 100% full line-level output, essentially turning it into a "pure DAC" mode. This not only ensures the highest Signal-to-Noise Ratio (the blackest background with the least noise), but it also hands the power back to your amplifier.
Using that physical knob on your vintage amp to control the volume—that tactile feeling is the true soul of playing with vintage audio!
Now, switch your amplifier's Input Selector knob to the port you just connected (e.g., AUX). Pick up your phone, open your favorite music app (Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, etc.), select the WiiM via AirPlay or Connect, and hit play.
It’s a magical moment. You are controlling the music with a futuristic touchscreen, but the sound flowing out is warm, powerful, and coming from transistors or tubes made 40 years ago.
You did it! Your old friend isn't obsolete; it is now the smartest device in the house.
Don't let your vintage stereo sit in the corner collecting dust. The WiiM Pro Plus is the best-value, highest-quality way to modernize your setup. It gives you modern convenience without sacrificing that retro sentiment.
