    Description

    • [Desktop Level ES9038PRO DAC]: Left and right audio channels each contain a desktop class 8-channel ES9038PRO DAC. This means that each audio channel has 8 parallel outputs added for superior resolution and minimal distortion for extremely pure audio reproduction.
    • [THX 788+ Desktop Class Headphone Amplifier]: Desktop class amplification also plays an important role in M17 audio player. FiiO and THX have jointly developed the exclusive THX AAA-788+, an updated version of the original operational amplifier. Compared to the original, the output power is increased by 225% up to 3000mW per channel, with a lower output impedance - allowing you to power all types of headphones more easily.
    • [Desktop Level Connectivity]: M17 mp3 player features: 3.5mm output: headphone output; 6.3mm output: headphone output; 2.5mm output: balanced headphone output; balanced headphone output/balanced line output; RCA coaxial port: coaxial input and output; 3 USB port .0: supports modes USB host and device, can be used for high-speed data transfers and fast charging; USB 2.0 port: support USB host mode. allowing external DACs or hard drive storage to be connected.
    • Desktop Heat Dissipation: With exceptional audio quality, it comes with great power consumption, so effective heat dissipation was a big focus when designing the M17 music player. The H type heat dissipation and liquid cooling VC technologies are not only adopted, the 151g unibody aluminum alloy structure of the M17 Bluetooth mp3 player also effectively transfers the heat out of the device. Finally, the cooling fan holder also ensures that heat is transported quickly.
    • Desktop Quality Power Supply: The M17 digital music player contains two power sources - one battery power supply and one external DC powered power supply. The battery power supply allows you to use the M17 lossless mp3 player in situations where there is no access to an outlet. Under the DC power supply, the voltage in the analog circuit is increased by 35% up to 11.5V compared to the power supply under the battery; and the battery is kept healthy, as it is not used in this mode.
    • Desktop level gain: Under battery power, there are 4 levels of gain: low, medium, high and headphone mode. When in DC mode, the enhanced earphone mode gain is unlocked, with a true level of amplification gain on the desktop. At balanced output, the gain can reach 16dB - allowing the M17 audio player to easily drive most headphones.
    • [A true smartphone-like experience]: Open Android 10 operating system to install third-party applications; Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX Adaptive support, supports up to DSD512 and 32bit/768kHz, supports 8x MQA deployment for master level sound.

There are 4 levels, High, Medium Low and Over-ear headphone mode, corresponding to 4 levels of output voltages. You can select different Gains according to the earphones used.

When the switch is set to DC and the DC power adapter is inserted, you cound switch to the hidden Enhanced Over-ear headphone mode.

      5.Lowpass filters

There are 7 different filters (internal configuration of the ES9038PRO) built in the M17 for your preference.

Filters are the sound effects born with the chip, which only has slight adjustments for the sound. Here are some introductions to different filters. These are only for reference since actual listening also has something to do with the matched device.

      1) Sharp Roll-Off Filter: full and rich sounds, positioned at the very rear. It is suitable for pop music.

      2) Short Delay Sharp Roll-Off Filter: robust, thick and atmospheric sounds, positioned at the rear. With accurate sound positioning and enough sound thickness, it is suitable for pop music.

      3) Low Dispersion Short Delay Filter: neutral sounds, positioned near the middle. It is a traditional filter that can match different music styles. If you have no idea about the filter, you can choose this one.

      4) Slow Roll-Off Filter: coherent and clear sounds, positioned near the middle. It is suitable for classical music.

      5) Short Delay Slow Roll-Off Filter: ultimately untouched sounds, positioned near the front. It can create an immersive music environment with clear and uncontrolled sounds, which is suitable for classical music.

      6) Super Slow Roll-Off Filter: soft sounds, positioned at the very front. It is fast with relatively clean sounds.

      6.Wireless playback quality

The Bluetooth transmission takes the highest codec by default. You can choose the highest codec supported for the Bluetooth connection by this option.

      7.Balance

If there is any imbalance between the left and right channels when playing music, you can adjust the channel balance here. It has up to 10 levels available.

      8. Coaxial output

After switching the SPDIF work mode to SPDIF OUT, please turn on this switch before using the coaxial output function.

      9.All To DSD

When the All To DSD function is turned on, the PCM signals will be converted to DSD for output with sound quality further improved.

【Principle】All To DSD is mainly about switching digital signals from PCM to DSD format. So when making digital-to-analog conversion, it can use DSD format, enriching music styles with clearer and natural sound quality. In addition, since the lowest format of the DSD is DSD64, i.e. 4 times of the 44.1k/16bit (just looking at the data size), the All To DSD function is upsampling the 44.1k/16bit audio signals. Third-party apps also support All To DSD.

【Notes】 When the All To DSD function is turned on, the CPU will consume more power, which will shorten the play time of the M17 with obvious heating on the body.

During the process of using, if you notice that the total battery life is much shorter than that written on the specification table on our website, please check if the All To DSD function is turning on. It is suggested to turn off the All To DSD function and follow the provided test conditions to check the battery life of the M17 again.

      10.Adjustable volume at LO

When it is turned on, the volume will be adjustable in LO mode. If it is turned off, the volume will be fixed as maximum.

      11. Max system volume

When the max system volume is set, the system volume will not go higher than the set volume.

      21. Instructions for Settings->Global menu

      1.System navigation

Gesture, 2-button and 3-button navigation are available.

      2.Multifunction button

To assign the function of the multifunction button on the left side.

      3.Power-off timers

Sleep: when the set time is up, the M17 will turn off automatically. The sleep time can be set as any integer values between 0 and 120.

Idle poweroff: the M17 will automatically turn off when the timer reaches the set time for idle poweroff when there is no operation or playback. During this process, the timer will restart if there is any operation or playback. The idle poweroff time can be set as any integer values between 0 and 50. (Note that this function will be disabled when it is set to OFF.)

      4.HOLD switch setting

When it is enabled, all closed buttons will be locked and cannot be used.

      5.Volume adjusting mode

The M17 use the volume knob for adjusting the volume by default. The volume button could not adjust the voulme at that time. You could switch this option to 'Adjust by volume button' and the volume button could adjust the volume now. Please select the option according to your need.

      6.In-vehicle mode

【Principle】After turning on the In-vehicle mode, you can connect the M17 to the on-board USB port, and the M17 will power on automatically and switch to the In-vehicle mode screen when the vehicle engine starts, and power off automatically when the vehicle engine stops.

【How to set】Go to Settings->Global->In-vehicle mode, or the drop-down menu to turn on the in-vehicle mode.

(Some onboard USB ports may encounter interruptions when connecting to the M17, in which case you can try to use FiiO's USB isolator, the LA-UA1, to fix the problem.)

*The in-vehicle mode will only work for USB 3.0 port in the M17.

      22. How to change the language on the M17?

Go to Settings->System->Languages and input->Languages->Add a language to choose the intended language.Hold the "=" icon on the right side and drag it to the first line to select the language successfully.

The language of the FiiO Music app defaults to follow the system's. You can also go to FiiO Music app-> Settings->Languages to choose the language independently.

      23. Lyrics display, screenshot and system navigation way of the M17

      24. How to make M17 enter enhanced over-ear headphones mode?

      1. Use the power adapter included in this device to connect to a power supply.

      2. Switch the BAT/DC switch on the side of the M17 to the DC power supply to enable the hidden enhanced over-ear headphone mode.

Note: You can choose other gain modes in the drop-down menu. Connecting to a DC power supply is only valid for the enhanced over-ear headphone mode, and other gain effects will remain unchanged.

Here I would like to simply talk about why the enhanced over-ear headphone mode of the M17 will be enabled in DC power supply mode.(From FiiO James)

Ever since entering the market, the M17 has received quite positive user feedback, esp. the exclusive enhanced over-ear headphone mode, which makes it a power monster among portable music players on the market. Thanks to its high power supply voltage and large dynamics, it has distinctive effects on different earphones. That is why consumers like it so much.

Naturally, many users are expecting that the enhanced over-ear headphone mode of the M17 can also be enabled when the M17 is powered by the battery. Here I would like to make a brief explanation with the help of the power supply block diagram of part of the amp circuit.

There are basically two power supplies for the M17. One is the built-in battery (the internal battery works when charging through the TC port), and the other is the 12V DC input through the DC round port.

The battery is powered by a DC/(DC power converter) that boosts the battery voltage from 3.7V to 10V. The external 12V DC voltage will first pass through an overvoltage protection chip to avoid excessive voltage exceeding the maximum working voltage of the internal chip and thus burning the chip.

The two different power supplies will first go through a voltage selection switch. If the DC/BAT switch is turned to BAT, the 10V power supply boosted by the battery will be selected. The 10V power will then enter into a 1:1 negative voltage converter which will be converted to -10V direct current.

Then the ±10V current will be sent to a high-precision LDO (linear voltage regulator) to reduce to ±8V before providing power to the THX 788+ amp circuit.

If the DC/BAT switch is set to DC which reaches to 12V power supply, it will enter into a 1:1 negative voltage converter which will be converted to -12V direct currents.

Then the ±12V power will be sent to the high-precision LDO (linear voltage regulator). Since the output voltage of the LDO selected is programmable (that is, the output voltage is variable), the ±12V power can be regulated to ±11V before being provided to the THX788+ amp circuit.

By the way, there are 2 tips.

      1. The LDO is a linear regulator, so the output voltage must be lower than the input voltage. Therefore, if the input voltage is 10V, it is impossible to output 11V voltage, while 11V voltage is a sufficient and necessary condition to enable the enhanced over-ear headphone mode.

      2. The power consumption of the THX 788+ amp circuit is relatively large, so the current is relatively large when working. Therefore, the input and output voltage difference of the LDO that supplies power to the THX788+ must be large enough for a better voltage regulation effect.

Therefore, the existing hardware design of the M17 cannot enable the enhanced over-ear headphone mode when powered by the battery.

      25. The power supply of the M17 under DC and BAT modes

The desktop mode of the M17 benefits from the more abundant energy of the DC power supply, faster power response, and lower internal resistance of the power source. Also, the power supply of the internal amp has been increased to ±11V, and the driven capacity has reached a desktop-grade 3000mW+3000mW in balanced output.
In addition, thanks to the DC mode, we also designed the BAT/DC switch. In the DC mode, the internal battery will not work. This helps to better protect the battery. Therefore, the M17 can be placed on the desktop for a long time and used as a desktop device yet without worrying that the battery would be degraded.

Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of the energy flow under the battery power supply. Under the battery power supply mode, the M17 is completely battery-powered, so it is particularly convenient to take it around anywhere you want.

Figure 2 shows the energy flow when plugging in a 12V/3A DC adapter, and the DC/BAT switch is at the BAT position. At this time, the M17 is powered by battery and DC hybrid power supplies. First, the 12V power source will flow into the battery through the internal circuit, and then the battery will power the whole device. We can imagine the battery as a large pool with water in and out. In the hybrid power supply mode, the battery capacity can be kept full at all times, which is suitable for use in short-term fixed scenarios. At this time, the battery life will be longer than in pure battery mode.

Figure 3 shows the energy flow when plugging in a 12V/3A DC adapter, and the DC/BAT switch is at the DC position. At this time, the M17 is completely powered by the DC adapter, and the power supply of the internal THX788+ headphone amplifier is also increased to ±11V. So it can drive most headphones thanks to the larger voltage swing and output power. For sure, heat generation will be more serious in this mode. But don't worry, we can put the M17 on the included cooling fan stand for effective heat dissipation. In DC power supply mode, the battery life can be greatly extended because the battery is not involved in the working process at all. So we have no worries about the battery.

      26. What should I do if the M17 Fail to be charged or turned on?

      a. Hold the power button for about 10 seconds when it is charging

b.Try other power adapters and charging cables.

c.The battery of your device may be overused, so it needs to be refreshed through low-current power. It is suggested to charge it through the computer for more than 2 hours, and then unplug the charging cable to see whether it can be turned on.

      d. If the problem still exists, please try to leave the device aside for 2 to 3 days, and then charge it again. Because sometimes its system may be stuck, it would return to normal when the device runs out of power.

If the above measures cannot help, please ask the local seller for help or contact us by sending an email to support@fiio.com with the receipt attached.
