    2. What should I do if the K9 AKM is abnormal? And safety instructions

【No sound, noisy sound, no power on】

The following methods can help you troubleshoot the cause:

    1. Unplug and replug the power cord, and turn on the switch on the back of the K9 AKM. It does not support the reset function, so we need to turn the back switch off, and then turn it on again to reboot the K9 AKM.

    2. Remove the fuse from the power plug and replace it, confirm whether the fuse is blown out.

    3. Check if the indicator light of the volume knob is lighting up. If it is off, the device might be muted. Please short press the power button/multifunction button to enable it.

    4. Replace the input terminal: When connecting with earphones from the front panel, [OUTPUT] needs to be switched to [HP]. Switch to other input ports, or change to a mobile phone or computer under USB to locate whether the fault is from the K9 AKM or the front end.

    5. Replace the output terminal: such as earphones, earphone cables, replace them with other outputs such as line output, balanced output, etc. to locate the fault.

    6. Software side: There are many reasons for the software side failure, which can be eliminated by the following methods, whether the DAC driver is installed, whether the playback software and the output of the system are correspondingly switched to K9 AKM, and whether other sampling rate Flac and DSD tracks can be played

*If the methods provided above cannot solve the problem, please contact our official customer service support@fiio.com manual customer service to give you further detailed answers.

    【Water entry】

Turn it off immediately and stop using it. Do not supply power. Keep it in a dry place. Contact our customer service to register for repair.

    3. K9 AKM's Knob/OUTPUT/GAIN/INPUT/Power Button Description

    【Knob】

Turn clockwise to increase volume, counter clockwise to decrease volume. (Note: It is normal that there is no sound output about 15 degrees in front of the volume knob)

    【OUTPUT】

Switch LO, PRE, PO three output modes:

LO means that the output is switched to the rear panel, and the volume knob can not adjust the volume. At this time, there is no sound from the headphone port on the front panel.

PRE means that the output is switched to the rear panel, and the volume knob can adjust the volume. At this time, there is no sound from the headphone port on the front panel.

PO means that the output is switched to the front panel, and the volume knob can adjust the volume. At this time, there is no sound from the interface on the rear panel. Please switch to [PO] to connect the earphones.

    【GAIN】

    1. Gain switch: H/M/L corresponds to high/medium/low gain, and the corresponding gain is 6dB/0dB/-6dB

    2. The gain is invalid under Line out and BALANCED OUT output

    3. When the gain is L/M, the THX power supply is 10V, and when the gain is H, the THX power supply is switched to 12.5V by software

    【INPUT】

Switch K9 AKM signal input 5 modes: USB, OPT: optical fiber, COAX: coaxial, LINE: line input, BT bluetooth

    【Power Button/Multifunction Button】

Long press standby, press and hold for 2 seconds to enter standby mode, in standby mode, press and hold again for 2 seconds to exit standby mode.

Short press, the indicator light goes off, enters mute mode, all output ports of K9 AKM stop output, at this time, turn the volume knob to restore the sound.

Why don't the output switch and gain switch respond immediately after switching?

In order to prevent the user from accidentally operating incorrectly or being unable to adjust to the required position at once, the output switch and gain switch have a delayed response setting. The system will only respond after the user stops the operation to avoid frequent response switching.

There are three headphone jacks on the front panel. Which one has the best sound quality?

Theoretically speaking, the XLR4 balance port is not much different from the 4.4 balance port. It will be more balanced and have greater thrust than the 6.35mm one.

Different headphone jacks will have different tastes when used with different headphones. There is no absolute distinction between good and bad sound quality. It is recommended to compare and listen to it in person.

Relevant suggestions when connecting K9 AKM to speakers:

    • Generally, when connecting a power amplifier or active speaker, first turn down the sound of the power amplifier or active speaker, and then gradually turn it up after the connection is completed to avoid popping sounds.
    • The volume in DAC mode cannot be adjusted and is the maximum. If you use the DAC function, be sure to turn down the sound of the power amplifier or active speaker first, and then gradually turn it up after the connections are made to avoid popping sounds.
    • When connected to a speaker whose volume cannot be adjusted, it is recommended that the K9 AKM be adjusted to the PRE output;

    【Linux computer】

The Linux system is driver-free. In theory, it can be used directly by connecting it. However, due to the large number of versions, there is no guarantee that all systems can be adapted. If it is connected, it is recommended to use other data cables or USB ports to check. If it is not recognized, it should be is not supported.

Does K9 AKM support driver-free function?

Supported, you can switch to USB 1.0 driver-free mode in Fiio Control App, and can decode PS5 and other devices

Why can’t K9 be recognized and used (USB) on win7 or win8 system computers?

The provider that provides us with USB DAC driver solutions has made it clear that it is no longer compatible with win7 and win8 systems in 2021, and only retains support for win10 and win11 systems.

In order to solve the problem of errors when users mistakenly use XMOS firmware to upgrade, we have decided after research to use a separate PID for each model of subsequent new products as a basis for upgrade judgment. It turns out that FiiO's old models share the same PID. K9 AKM uses a new PID, which cannot be recognized by versions 5.30 and below. It needs to be updated to version 5.50 or above.

Therefore, driver version 5.50 and above must be installed to use K9 AKM, and K9 AKM is not compatible with win7 and win8 systems.

How can I make K9 AKM recognized by the computer on win7 system?

    There are currently two options:

Option 1: FiiO provides the firmware to users. Users can find a computer with win10 or win11 system and flash the K9 AKM to the PID of the old model.

Option 2: FiiO provides firmware and operation tutorials to users. Users follow the instructions on their win7 computers to crack the driver, so that after win7 recognizes the K9 AKM, the PID of the K9 AKM is upgraded to the old version.

    9. How to control K9 AKM on FiiO Music App or FiiO Control?

What to do if the phone cannot be connected:

1.Try to restart K9 AKM and connect again

2.It is not recommended to use FiiO Control and FiiO Music at the same time. During Bluetooth high bit rate transmission, if you set FiiO Control, there may be conflicts. It is recommended to use FiiO Music to play music after the setting is completed.

3.Please turn on the location of the mobile phone, turn off the FiiO Control APP, and reconnect it

    10. Can I upgrade the firmware?

There is no new firmware for the time being, and if there is an update, it will be added here.
