Update QX11 safely to V1.29, understand the PS5 Gaming Mode volume change, and verify volume, EQ and microphone behavior after installation.
FiiO QX11 firmware V1.29 is the current official update for the QX11. FiiO released it on October 16, 2026, with two supported update routes: the FiiO Control app on Android or FiiO Control Web in a compatible browser. The safest approach is to use a stable USB data connection, avoid disconnecting the QX11 during installation, and verify the reported version after the device restarts. This guide covers the complete process and the checks to make if an update does not appear or finish correctly.

FiiO's Chinese release notes identify two changes: a Gaming Mode option that removes the PlayStation 5 volume limitation, and a volume-adjustment bug optimization. These are functional changes; the release notes do not establish a universal improvement in sound quality. Begin with the volume low after updating, especially when testing the PS5 change.
Firmware updates are worth installing when they come from the manufacturer and address a need, but they should not be treated as automatic sound-quality upgrades. As checked on October 20, 2026, FiiO lists V1.29 as the current QX11 firmware and distributes it through its own control tools. The official release page is the source of truth for the package and update method.
Before updating, note your current firmware version and any custom EQ settings. An update may preserve them, but keeping a quick record makes recovery easier. If the QX11 is working perfectly and you do not need the update immediately, there is no benefit in rushing through it on an unstable computer, cable, or phone connection.
The QX11 has separate USB-C connections for audio and external power. Follow the port instructions shown by FiiO Control rather than assuming the power-only path can carry update data. If the device is not detected, the first diagnostic step is to change the data cable or connect directly to the host.
Do not unplug the DAC simply because the display appears inactive for a moment. Installation can include a restart and USB re-enumeration, during which the host briefly loses the normal audio device.
Connect the QX11 to the computer with a working data cable, open FiiO Control Web in a supported browser, authorize the device connection, and then open Configuration > Device Update. Start the update and wait for the completion message.
A direct computer USB port is preferable to a monitor, dock, keyboard, or unpowered hub. If the browser cannot see the QX11, confirm that the browser supports USB-device access, close any desktop software already controlling the DAC, reconnect it, and try again.

For a PS5 setup, reconnect to the console and test Gaming Mode with a familiar game at low volume. Check that physical volume changes behave consistently and that voice input still reaches the game or chat app. Compare operation, not remembered loudness: a higher available volume ceiling is not proof of better fidelity.
Reopen FiiO Control after the QX11 reconnects and check that the firmware field reports V1.29. Then test the functions you actually use:
If a headphone plays but its microphone does not, firmware is only one possible cause. The plug standard, host, cable path, permissions, and application input selection also matter. Our guide to USB-C dongles and headset microphones explains that signal path.
First confirm that the control tool recognizes the product as QX11. If it does not, try another known data cable, remove passive USB adapters, and connect directly. On Android, reconnect the DAC, accept the USB permission prompt, and reopen FiiO Control. On a computer, close audio applications and retry in the supported browser.
If FiiO Control recognizes the QX11 but shows no online update, check the installed version; it may already be V1.29. Revisit FiiO's official release page rather than downloading a file from a forum or sharing site. Never install firmware intended for another FiiO model, even if its hardware looks similar.
Do not repeatedly unplug the device during an active write. If the tool has clearly failed and stopped, close it, reconnect the QX11 directly, and retry with a different cable or host port. Restarting the phone or computer can clear a USB service retaining the old session.
If the QX11 remains undetected by FiiO Control and the operating system, stop repeating the update and contact official support with the serial information, host system, cable type, previous version, and exact point of failure. That evidence is more useful than a general “update failed” report.
The QX11 is a compact USB DAC/headphone amplifier built around dual ES9069Q DACs, with 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs, desktop and portable modes, a 1.14-inch display, custom EQ, gaming presets, and decoding up to PCM 768kHz/32-bit and DSD512. Those specifications matter only when they solve a real need: more headphone drive, balanced output, gaming/headset integration, or configurable EQ.
If you only use easy-to-drive wireless headphones, a wired dongle may add complexity without improving daily use. Compare the tradeoffs in our wired dongle DAC versus Bluetooth headphones guide. Owners choosing gain settings can also use our explanation of high gain versus low gain.

This guide previously covered V1.27. Its URL is retained so saved links still work; the instructions now cover V1.29. Owners already on V1.29 do not need to reinstall merely because an older bookmark contains a version number. If your control tool offers a later official package, read its model-specific release notes and verify the installed version against that package instead.
For buying advice rather than updating, read the QX11 review or the BTR17 versus QX11 comparison.
Install V1.29 through FiiO's official Android or web control route when you have a stable data connection and enough uninterrupted time to verify the result. Record settings, avoid third-party files, and test outputs, microphone, EQ, and the normal host afterward. The FiiO QX11 product page shows current availability and the exact model sold by EMiUZEK.
