       [Linux computer]

Linux systems are generally driver-free and should work by plugging in directly. However, due to the wide variety of versions, full compatibility cannot be guaranteed. If the device is not recognized, it is suggested to try another data cable or USB port. If still not detected, the system may not be supported.

      8. Desktop Mode and independent power input

What is Desktop Mode? Desktop Mode is designed to extend the product’s lifespan (by reducing battery usage) and to increase output power and drive capability. Many of FIIO’s later products also feature this mode.

On the QX13, when Desktop Mode is enabled, the hardware activates four op-amps in parallel for higher current output, significantly boosting power output (driving ability). The independent power input port allows the QX13 to run directly from an external power supply, reducing the phone’s battery drain and helping to extend its lifespan.

Is it necessary to always enable Desktop Mode during normal use? No. Whether to enable Desktop Mode depends on personal listening preferences, the heat generated by the QX13, and your tolerance for phone battery consumption. It is meant to be a customizable option.

How to enable Desktop Mode on QX13?

Use the “D.MODE” toggle on the QX13 to switch on/off the Desktop Mode.

When switched to ON, Desktop Mode is enabled, increasing the device’s power, gain, and driving force—ideal for high-impedance or harder-to-drive headphones.

When switched to OFF, Desktop Mode is disabled, suitable for daily listening and low-impedance, easy-to-drive headphones.

      Independent power input of QX13

The QX13 is designed with two Type-C ports. The bottom USB port is for connections with mobile phones, tablet PCs, or computers. The side orange USB port is dedicated for external independent power input. When connected to a power adapter, the independent power port allows the QX13 to unleash greater performance and driving power while preventing battery drain on the connected phone.

Independent power input takes priority. Once connected, the QX13 will draw power from the independent port instead of the phone. The independent power supply must provide at least 5V/1A.

Can Desktop Mode be enabled without external power? Generally yes. When paired with Android phones, iPhone 15 series, or computers, Desktop Mode can be enabled even without an external power supply. However, with other Apple devices, external power is required to use Desktop Mode.

Can QX13 reach 900mW output in Desktop Mode without external power? Yes, as long as the USB port provides sufficient power, it can still reach 900mW (we have confirmed this with some Android phones). If the USB port cannot provide enough power, Desktop Mode will automatically disable (the “D” icon on the screen will disappear).

Can external power be used when Desktop Mode is disabled? Yes. When both the main and the side USB power ports are connected, the QX13 will prioritize power from the side port.

      14. Explanation of QX13 digital filters
      15. PEQ settings about QX13

      What is PEQ?

PEQ (Parametric Equalizer) is an equalizer that allows detailed adjustment of multiple parameters, including frequency bands (e.g., low, mid-low, mid-high, high), frequency points (sweepable, freely selectable), gain (boost/cut), and Q factor (bandwidth, adjustable or selectable high/low Q). It is generally used for subjective sound adjustments, making the music style more distinct and colorful, and achieving the desired listening effect.

What is the difference between PEQ and a regular EQ?

With PEQ, you can freely customize the center frequency, amplitude, and Q factor. In contrast, a regular EQ allows you to adjust amplitude only, while the frequencies and Q values are fixed by the system. Simply put, PEQ is fully customizable, while a standard EQ is system-defined. Because regular EQ presets are fixed and limited in variety, many users find that none of them fully meet their expectations. With the introduction of customizable PEQ, this issue is resolved, providing users with far greater flexibility.

How to use PEQ on the QX13

      On Mobile phone (Android only)

Connect the QX13 to your phone via a USB cable. Open the FIIO Control app, tap “+” in the top-right corner of My Products to find and connect the QX13. Tap the Equalizer option to configure PEQ.

       On PC (Web browser)

      16. How to charge the mini power bank ESTICK with QX13?
      17. Does the carbon fiber version of QX13 have heat accumulation issues that affect sound?

      1) Compared to the KA17, the QX13 reduces power consumption by 23%. This means that at the same output power, it generates less heat, reducing thermal buildup at the source.

      2) The internal design adopts thermal conductive silicone and a nickel silver heat spreader, which efficiently conducts heat away from the core sources (such as DAC/AMP chips). Heat is quickly and evenly dispersed over a larger area, effectively preventing localized heat accumulation and improving overall thermal dissipation efficiency.

      3) While the thermal conductivity of carbon fiber is indeed lower than that of metal, it still has some heat conduction capability. Combined with the internal thermal management system, the large-area carbon fiber housing, and additional heat dissipation through headphone jacks and connectors, the QX13 can continuously and stably release internal heat into the air.

      4) Strict thermal testing verification: In a high-temperature environment of 30°C, the QX13 was tested under continuous 24-hour playback at 20% volume in Desktop Mode (high power consumption state). The results showed that the maximum localized surface temperature of the housing reached only 43.5°C. After the test, all hardware indicators remained normal, fully proving its thermal reliability and stability under extreme conditions.

      5) The QX13 is also equipped with a temperature protection mechanism. When the temperature exceeds the limit, it will automatically exit Desktop Mode and reduce volume. If the temperature continues to rise, further protection will be triggered by shutting down audio output, preventing abnormal operation due to overheating.

Conclusion: The device does not suffer from heat accumulation issues that would cause malfunction or affect sound quality.
